Food quality is based upon elapsed time and the temperature at which the food is stored with higher temperatures speeding up the reduction of food quality. Timestrips® accurately measure (within +/- 10%) this quality reduction by speeding up if the item is kept at a warmer temperature than for which the Timestrip® was designed.
While temperature sensitive, Timestrips® measure elapsed time and do not measure temperature. If an item is taken from the refrigerator and left at room temperature for several hours, the Timestrip® will speed up to indicate the corresponding reduction in quality and the greater potential for foodborne illness.
